I think you need to get this when it becomes available in Feb. I saw it and immediately thought of you. (You don’t need to pose on the counter and look pants-less. Unless of course you want to, in which case whatever floats your boat…)

Mad Mats!

November 14, 2008

So I found this store that sells the most random things. Awesome things, but totally random. Its like an old fashioned general store on speed, and fancy. I could spend an enitre day there and not get bored.

Anyway, they sell these rugs there that are awesome. At first, I was attracted to the patterns and bright colors. Then I realized the were outdoor rugs. THEN I found out that they’re made out of recycled soda bottles. I mean, how freaking awesome is that?? Recycled, and totally plastic so you can just hose them off and its good as new. And they’re reversable! To top it all off, the brand is called “Mad Mats” which I think it hysterical. Love it!

I want to get a huge one that will cover my entire back deck (ok maybe II’ll just have to buy a few). And then have a fabulous Gatsbyesque party on it. And since the price is right (the largest sizes are barely over $100) I just may be able to do that.

I love dresses

November 9, 2008

First off, I’m back and should be updating much more regularly now. Yay!

Now that I’m back to a semi-normal life, I’m really looking forward to dressign up again. I’m loving dresses right now. You know what I don’t love? The fact that its like 40 degrees out yet for some reason none of the dresses in the stores have any sort of sleeves. Also, my job’s dress code that says I have to have some sort of sleeve. And my body, because the “universally flattering” wrap dress is NOT flattering on me.  Plus, they make me feel like I’m wearing a bathrobe.

So, I set out to fine some cute, affordable dresses that aren’t a wrap style and that cover the shoulder. Not an easy task! But I did find a few that I can see myself living in this winter (andd beyond).

First up, this beauty from DAY Birger et Mikkelsen:

Marked down from over $500 to $252! This would be super cute with dark tights, on its own or under a chunky knit cardi. It will also be cute by itself in the warmer wather. I love the print on it.

Next up, this gorgeous white number from Le Train Bleu.

So sweet and floaty, and again could be great as a layering piece or on its own. And look- sleeves! Unfortunately only itty bitty sizes are left. So if you can wear a 0 or 2 please buy this so I can live vicariously through you. K?

LTB does it again with this dress that would be perfect for work.

Last but not least, there’s this one from Gap. Priced perfectly at $38, what more can you ask for? This has a sort of casual cool vibe to it, but is still totally office appropriate.

Thats all I got for now. Football is starting. Go Bills!

Why is fall fashion always the best? I absolutely hate that I’m on a budget right now. I would so much rather have new clothes than a second car (unfortunately the second car was required for work)…

Summer Shoes

August 2, 2008

While you’re at Target buying shaving cream, you should also pick up a pair of these shoes:

They look better in person. They have quickly become my summer shoe staple- I wear them probably 4 times a week. For such a high heel, they’re surprisingly comfortable and they go with a lot since they’re neutral. But the best part is that I CONSTANTLY get compliments on them. From people at work that have seen them before (seriously, how many times are you going to compliment the same freaking pair of shoes?) to random people on the street telling me that they love them (this happens fairly often too). On second thought, if you don’t like attention don’t buy them.

Now featuring green(er) walls

July 4, 2008

Well, I had another crazy week at work. And as we all know by now, when work is crazy and stressful I don’t take the weekend to relax. I do all of the chores that I’ve been putting off for months. Yes, I’m apparently a masochist. Anyway, this time was no different, and I finally got around to painting the dining room liek I’ve mentioned on here oh so many times. I pretty much love it. It took forever to find the “right” green but we did. And it’s awesome. It makes the white of the trim really pop (and we have some awesome trim under the windows. Gotta love old houses!) and the color of the furniture really plays off of it well. Now, to get around to finding that chandelier that I need to finish it…

Before: Yucky pistachio-ish walls that did nothing for the space

After: Now that’s what I’m talking ’bout!

Kelly’s recent post about bra-sized swim suits really caught my eye. I’m cursed with a pretty large chest for my small frame (shut up, it is a curse!) and it makes fitting things pretty tricky sometimes. Especially things like swimsuits that should be pretty tight. I usually go the two piece/ different sizes route, but I visit the beach maybe twice a summer and really, noone needs to be subjected to my blue-white stomach.

So I’ve bee looking into the swimsuits that are sold by bra size, and I saw a few rack’s of them in Macy’s today. Some were pretty cute and they had my size (and they were on sale!!) so I tried some on. Oh. my. God. Why did noone think of this before? The fit is so perfect! Enough coverage in the chest, but still tight enough everywhere else. It’s also the first time I’ve been able to do a plunging neckline… the attached bra keeps everything nicely in place. Its the most flattering swimsuit ever. Seriously.

The one I got is a solid black maillot* style, with a plunging neckline and a twist detail on the front. Very classic and pretty sexy but still suitable for the upcoming trip with the in-laws. I’m loving the idea of wearing it with this hat, my huge gucci sunglasses, and my gold sandals.

Normally I dread the beach, but this year I say bring it on!

* doesn’t maillot sound so much sexier than “tank suit”?
