Do you ever feel like

Do you ever feel like just packing everything up, going to a random new place, and starting your life over? I do. Kind of hard to do when you have a husband and a dog though.  *sigh*

(And yes, I realize I just got back from a 2 month trip, but its not exactly the same when you’re working 12+ hours a day and know you’ll be back home soon.)

Mad Mats!

So I found this store that sells the most random things. Awesome things, but totally random. Its like an old fashioned general store on speed, and fancy. I could spend an enitre day there and not get bored.

Anyway, they sell these rugs there that are awesome. At first, I was attracted to the patterns and bright colors. Then I realized the were outdoor rugs. THEN I found out that they’re made out of recycled soda bottles. I mean, how freaking awesome is that?? Recycled, and totally plastic so you can just hose them off and its good as new. And they’re reversable! To top it all off, the brand is called “Mad Mats” which I think it hysterical. Love it!

I want to get a huge one that will cover my entire back deck (ok maybe II’ll just have to buy a few). And then have a fabulous Gatsbyesque party on it. And since the price is right (the largest sizes are barely over $100) I just may be able to do that.

And there will be pretty flowers and sunshine.

so much time, so little to do

Yeah, you read that right. I have some time off work to make up for the insanity that was the last 3 months. I don’t know what to do with myself. I apparently need some sort of schedule in order to function properly. Otherwise I just veg on the couch all day and watch trashy tv (I have much to say about today’s Tyra, but I will save that for another post). Seriously the first day or two I actually planned to just chill and do nothing. But today I was actually bored. You know what I did? Baked bread. Yes, a noble task; however pretty pathetic since that’s ALL I did today. Oh, OK, not all. I also drove to Target. More as an excuse to leave the house than anything else. I didn’t even buy anything. Did you know its possible to go there and not buy anything? I didn’t. I must come up with some sort of schedule for myself. And I guess it should probabaly include the gym. or at the very least, the wii fit.

I love dresses

First off, I’m back and should be updating much more regularly now. Yay!

Now that I’m back to a semi-normal life, I’m really looking forward to dressign up again. I’m loving dresses right now. You know what I don’t love? The fact that its like 40 degrees out yet for some reason none of the dresses in the stores have any sort of sleeves. Also, my job’s dress code that says I have to have some sort of sleeve. And my body, because the “universally flattering” wrap dress is NOT flattering on me.  Plus, they make me feel like I’m wearing a bathrobe.

So, I set out to fine some cute, affordable dresses that aren’t a wrap style and that cover the shoulder. Not an easy task! But I did find a few that I can see myself living in this winter (andd beyond).

First up, this beauty from DAY Birger et Mikkelsen:

Marked down from over $500 to $252! This would be super cute with dark tights, on its own or under a chunky knit cardi. It will also be cute by itself in the warmer wather. I love the print on it.

Next up, this gorgeous white number from Le Train Bleu.

So sweet and floaty, and again could be great as a layering piece or on its own. And look- sleeves! Unfortunately only itty bitty sizes are left. So if you can wear a 0 or 2 please buy this so I can live vicariously through you. K?

LTB does it again with this dress that would be perfect for work.

Love.

Last but not least, there’s this one from Gap. Priced perfectly at $38, what more can you ask for? This has a sort of casual cool vibe to it, but is still totally office appropriate.

Thats all I got for now. Football is starting. Go Bills!

I’m still alive

If anyone’s been missing me, I’m still alive… just been working my ass off on a campaign. A few quick observations before I crash for the night…

-Sometimes I really hate being a woman in politics. I went to a fundraiser the other night, and the lobbyists were all being so freaking obnoxious to me. They weren’t trying to be dicks, but when you get a few drinks into middle aged men and then a young, somewhat attractive (if I do say so myself) woman walks into the room, they tend to get a little…inappropriate. Its sexual harassment, and unfortunately in this line of work I feel like I sometimes do have to take it,

-I am more of a hopeless romantic than I thought I was, or than I’d like to admit. Its been 2 weeks and I miss the hubby like whoa. Like, to the point of almost wanting to up and quit just so I can go home. I’ve done this whole campaign thing before, and I don’t remember it beign this bad. He’s coming to visit next weekend though, so hopefully that helps. If I can survive the next week.

-The city that I’m in is weird. The bar I went to the other day had no kitchen…they served cold sandwiches though. Everywhere seems obsessed with sandwiches. Especially egg salad and tuna…even nicer places have egg salad on the menu. So weird. I feel like I’m in a time warp to the 50s. Soup choices are also weird…it was cold out today and I wanted nothing more than a bowl of potato soup. Of course, all I could find was beef or turkey. We apparently don’t do vegetarians soups here. I did have an awesome pulled pork sandwich the other day, but that’s really not the kind of thing I normally eat. I would kill for soem nice fall squash.

-If McCain ends up winning this election and actually takes Palin to DC with him, I have to rethink my life plans. I refuse to live in the same city as that woman, and I was plannign on moving back in the nest 5 or so years. Nuh uh, not happening. Maybe I’ll brush up on my French and move ot Quebec. I love Quebec.

I stole this from jemangelaville.com. This list is the 100 things that Very Good Taste thinks everyone should eat at least once in their life.

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
4) Optional extra: Post a comment at www.verygoodtaste.co.uk linking to your results.

For such an ugly suit, it actually photographed nicely.

I’m honestly really mad that my delegates didn’t get to vote. Acclamation, my ass. WTF is that all about? Regardless of the outcome, i would really have liked for my vote to count.

I love her, and you know what? Maybe I did it more for her than for what she believes in. I’m bitter.

And I’m off to watch Obama’s speech while crying into a pint of Ben and Jerry’s.

Why is fall fashion always the best? I absolutely hate that I’m on a budget right now. I would so much rather have new clothes than a second car (unfortunately the second car was required for work)…

Solution!!

The gods must have been reading my old post complaining about shave cream leaving rust in my tub. A few weeks ago, another blog did a review of a cheap (around $5) shave cream that some in a plastic shampoo-like bottle. Well, she didn’t like it very much and the company decided to give some samples out to her blog readers to try it out for themselves.

I got a sample, I have to say that I honestly like it quite a bit. the cream is nice and thick- more like a lotion. The scent is nice- not overly sweet (I got vanilla and I usually hate things that are food scented). And….no rust stains!! Awesome. Its not a bad cream either, I get a nice close shave and my legs feel all nice and smooth after.

So, get thee to thy local Target and pick up some of this stuff. You’re bathtub will thank you.

*I do feel like I should disclose that the other blogger said that it stung her legs. I did not have this problem, not did any of the other people that commented on her blog. I also do not have sensitive skin.
